Sri Lanka - Places to Visit in Sri Lanka

 

Hakgala Botanical Gardens
Hakgala Botanical Garden is the second largest nature garden in Sri Lanka. The garden is contiguous to Hakgala Strict Nature Reserve. Is situated on the Nuwara Eliya-Badulla main road, 16 km from Nuwara Eliya. The garden has a cool temperate climate because of altitude is 5,400 feet above the sea level. The mean annual temperature ranges between 16°C to 30°C during course of a year. From December to February it has a cold climate, while the warm climate persists from April to August. The Garden established in 1861 as an experimental cultivation of Cinchona, a commercial crop thriving at the time. Once after the Tea replace the Cinchona, it was turned into an experimental Tea cultivation. In 1884 it transformed to a garden since then many sub-tropical and some temperate plants were planted in the gardens. In the folklores, it says Sri Lankan demon King Ravana after abducting Sita, kept her hidden in this area and area was offered to Sita as a pleasure garden, the place finds mention in the Ramayana as Ashok Vatika. The area was named as "Sita Eliya" and "Sita Amman Temple" was built on the site. There are over 10,000 species of flora planted here and during the spring season in Nuwara Eliya thousands of visitors come to see the blooms here. Number of annual visitors is around 500,000. The garden is famous for number of species of Orchids and Roses are planted there.

 

 

 

Ambewela Place In Sri Lanka











Ambewela is one of most beautiful places in Sri Lanka and situated at Nuwaraeliya district. Highest and widest grass grounds are available in Ambewela Place. There are about 18Km away to Ambewela from Nuwaraeliya Town. And also another way to Ambewela from Boragas Junction witch is between Nuwaraeliya and Welimada & Closed to Hakgala Botanical Garden. About 8km far away from Boragas junction. There a small tractor way to Ambewela from Dayagama via New Zealand farms. Visitors haven't permission to access via that way.

                                                   There is a railway station also available in Ambewela. It is situated between Parakumpura and Pattipola railway stations. Closed railway tunnel to the ambewela is tunnel 18 of Pattipola. There are 3km to the Pattipola. Ambewela is situated on the way of Horton plains from Nuwaraeliya or Badulla (Welimada). Some visitors travel Horton plains via Ohiya and also visit Amewela then moves to Nuwaraeliya or Colombo. There are High railway bridge and beautiful waterfall at Ambewela. Waterfall identifies as Elgin and 3km from Ambewela to Nanuoya side.



Milco(Milko) and Highland full cream milk powder factory is situated at closed to Ambewela railway station. One and only Sri Lankan milk powder factory is it. New Zealand farms and Ambewela farms are also closed to Ambewela town. Cows, Bulls, Rabbits, Pigs, Hens, Cocks and gouts and many more animals are available for buy or visit at Ambewela. And lot of products are manufactured buy Ambewela farm. Cheese , Butter and many milk products are manufactured buy it. Widest grasses ground also at Ambewela farm. You can see lot of bulls and cows in there. Getting milk with machine at 12:30 noon in New Zealand farm. Visitors can see it.

                                                  There are very beautiful very beautiful reservior at Ambewela known as Kande Ela. It's not very big but it has various beauties in various pots. The lake which had got for Anjalika movie and teledramas is Kandeela lake and it is situated at Mepilimana from 6km from Ruwaneliya junction of Nanuoya. Boat service and accommodation facilities are available in closed to Ambewela Lake. (BUT : There are no any place to reside at closed to Ambewela Railway station)  There are some residence places at Ruwaneliya place and Mipilimana palce. SLBC circuit bungalow, Kande Ela circuit bungalows are available but reservations should be done with contacting office on Colombo. Some small guests are available at Ruwaneliya. Best thing is reside at closed to Boagas or Hakgala with cheap price and move via Boragas entrance to Ambewela.


Ambewela is situated at the way of Horton plains from Nuwaraeliya. Ambewela is more famous because of Ambewela milk powder factory, New Zealand and Ambewela farms, Railway station, Mipilimana Kandeela lake and cool climate. . Ambewela cool is feeling comfortable at every time of the year. In new year season period most tourists are come to Ambewela for visit farm and other beauty .

Hakgala Mountain of Sri Lanka


Hakgala is very cool position of Sri Lanka and situated at between Nuwaraeliya and Welimada towns. There are about 12Km from Nuwaraeliya Town. Specialty of Hakgala is Hakgala Botanical garden, Hakgala Mountain amd Hakgala Cool climate. Hakgala Mountain is at above area of Hakgala botanical Garden. Hakgala Mountain is very good for hacking and find out the information of endemic varieties at Sri Lanka. But the problem is Hakgala Mountain is a High forest area. Anyone cannot access that area without special permit from wildlife department of Sri Lanka. Three such types of forests are available in Sri Lanka.
                              
                                

Hakgala Mountain is 8th highest mountain of Sri Lanka. In evening mist comes and covered the all areas of the mountain. High of Hakgala Mountain above sea level is 2170m above sea level.  


Dunhinda Waterfalls of Sri Lanka


Dunhinda waterfall is big waterfall of Sri Lanka and which is at Soranathota place of Badulla Sri Lanka. Dunhinda waterfall is made by jump water with high gap of Badulu River. This water ways started with Uma Oya, Hal Oya and small rivers at Bandarawela and Welimada area. Dunhinda Falls is at Badulla - Mahiyangana road and there are about 10km from Badulla town. The falls is 1km faraway from Badulla – Mahiyangana main road. Walking path is available for access the falls.  There are small waterfall closed to walking way identifies as small Dunhinda waterfalls.
    
                                        Dunhinda waterfall is one of beautiful waterfall of Sri Lanka. Downsides of Dunhinda there are three main water Valleys identifies as Randenigala, Rantambe and Victoria. Uma oya direct to Rantambe and other two Valleys from Mahaweli River though Kandy. Uma Oya starts at worlds end and it travels Ambewela, Nuwaraeliya, Uva Paranagama, Welimada, Attampitiya, Haliela, Badulla and ended with Mahaweli River.

    
In several years ago Badulla town is a large valley. In that time Dunhinda waterfall was not present. Big Vine was blocked the way of Badulu River and there fore the city had become a big Valley. The man called Ranhawadi Dhuraya aspect to remove this vine. He tried several time to remove it. How ever whiting several months he could cut off the whole vine and he died within sleep. After removing the Vine water moves down with spreading. Then the Large and beautiful waterfall was born and it is called as Dunhinda.

Bakers Waterfalls of Sri Lanka


Baker's waterfall is one of the very beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka. This waterfalls is height about 22 meters. Bakers Falls is situated at Horton Plains of Sri Lanka. On the way to Worlds End gap via Horton plans easy to access to the waterfall. The falls is at closed to the border of Badulla, Nuwaraeliya and Rathnpura districts and really in Nuwaraeliya district. Nuwaraeliya, Nanuoya, Bandarawela, Badulla, Welimada areas are the closing towns to this waterfall. There are two main roads to access this waterfall. Those are Nuwaraeliya Entrance and Bandarawela Entrance. This falls can be access from Nuwaraeliya entrance via Welimada, Nuwaraeliya and Ambewela Pattipola areas. About 35km far away from Nuwraeliya to Pattipola and 4Km s to walk into the falls. And also about 40Km from Bandarawela or 30Km from Haputale via Boralanda and Ohiya. In otherwise there is a special secret way to access Horton plains and the falls via Kalupahana, (Between Colombo - Badulla road / A5), Bambarakanda falls, Udaweriya State, Ohiya Upper Estate and Horton Plains. This way is some what damaged and 4wheel vehicle should be needed to travel.


 The Fall is very beautiful because various corners and various views shows various beautiful scenery. The waterfall looks like a  step view. In top side of the fall like a long pool. There is a point at fall which divides more than thousand of parts and made beautiful scenery in middle of the fall. Below the middle part there has another waterfall available. It also very beautiful. Include all things and fall become to most beautiful waterfall in Sri Lanka. There is a tree which in front of Baker's Waterfall. It gives more valuable to the falls. Taking photographs with covering whole tree is some what difficult task.

                                                This falls is part of Horton plains. When travels to Worlds End via Horton plains don't miss to visit this valuable and beautiful fall. There are some restrictions on this Falls. That is visitors haven't permissions to bath at this waterfall because several lives had missed with bathing


Piduruthalagala Mountain of Sri Lanka


Piduruthlagala is the Highest mountain and highest top of the Sri Lanka. Top of the Piduruthalalgala mountain is high 2524m above sea level. this mountain is very beautiful and very cool mountain of Sri Lanka. piduruthalagala cool climate is very wonderful. At this height, it stands as the tallest point in the country, and ranks as an Ultra prominent peak. The peak is currently occupied by security forces of the country as a military base, and is closed to the general public.

                                                           Most highest pot of Sri Lanka called Piduruthalagala and top of this mountain and meter to every place of Sri Lanka with their distance and vector. Piduruthalagala mountain is at Nuwaraeliya place and secret plants secret animals and various things are hidden in there. Mostplants and animals are endemic to Sri Lanka. Soma plants which are only grows at Himalayas of India are grows in this mountain.

                         
                                                           Their is a coolest and highest village of Sri Lanka called Shanthipura which is at between Nuwaraeliya city and Piduruthalagala mountain. Their are busses to Shanthipura and Nuwaraeliya but shutters of this buses are can not opened. Because thir is very cool.Most big Radar station and most powerful Sri Lankan Sri Lanka Rupavahini television tower is situated at top of Piduruthalagala mountain.

Adisham Bungalow of Haputale Sri Lanka
Adisham bungalow is a very big bungalow which was made by British governor at 1931 and it is at 2km from Haputale town of Sri Lanka. Several visitors used to visit this place daily. In present the bungalow is a church.
Adisham bungalow is at near to Haputale town at very closed to Glanor tea estate of Haputale. There are several tea estates and Hindu Kovils also at near Adisham bungalow. Up side of bungalow is a eucalyptus forest and downside of bungalow is railway between Haputale and Idalgashinna railway stations.
Garden of Adisham is a fruit estate and flower estate. Jams, Cordials and several foods are produced at Adisham bungalow and available for buy


1.Sigiriya
There was an attempt to name Sigiriya as one of the wonders of the ancient world. In fact there was a campaing to name Sigiriya as the 8thwonder of the ancient world. It really deserves a place of the list ofancient wonders and has named as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Sigiriya is regarded as one of the best planned cities of ancient times which includes the Citadal, the water technology with , symmetrical and asymmetrical gardens and the frescoes. More information about Sigiriya can be found here.

2.Yoda Ela Water Flow Technique

This is an irrigation and engineering miracle of ancient times. A man made cannel created to supply water to the lakes of Polonnaruwa which is situated in North of Sri lanka The cannel is 54 miles long. The engineers even today wonder how the ancient irrigation engineers managed the slope of 6cm per 1 mile that is maintained through out this cannel.

3. Parakrama Samudraya

The parakrama Samudraya is the largest man made lake in Sri Lanka. It really stands upto its name Samudra which in Sinhala means sea. The tank was built in Polonnaruwa era by the Great king Parakramabahu. This is the life blood of the people of Polonnaruwa for their agricultural and other water needs. It has nearly 5,600 acers of waters which helps cultivating 18,200 of paddy lands. The bunt of the tank is 8.5 miles long and it is said that to complete the tank one thousand men work for 12 years.

4. The Trincomalee Harbour

This is arguably the best natural harbour of the world. It is ranked as the world’s 5th largest natural harbor and during the second world war the harbor was the base for the Allied powers in the East Asia.

5. Hortan Planes

Hortan Planes is one of the world's best natural reserves. It is unique because of its landscape. It is very rich in biodiversity and most of the species found here are endemic. Hortan Planes is the starting point and the main water resource for 3 main rivers in Sri Lanka named Mahaweli, Kaleni and Walawe.
The Hortan Planes is world famous for its Bakers Falls, Chimmini Pool and the world's End. World's end is a sheer drop 3700 ft which gives a fabulous view of the surrounding. To read more about Hortan planes go here and here.

6. Ruwanveliseya

Ruwanveliseya was built in the Anuradhapura era by the Great King Dutugamunu and is considered as an architectural marvel and a sacred place for the Buddhist all around the world.
The Stupa is one of the world's tallest monuments with a height of 300 ft and a circumference of 950 ft.

7. Sri Dalada maligawa

Sri Dalada Maligawa is the most sacred place for the Buddhist around the world as the sacred tooth relic is situated here. Sri Dalada maligawa is the palace of the last King of ancient Sri Lanka. Kandy and Sri Dalada Maligawa are major tourist actractions in Sri lanka. The world famous Kandy Asela Perahera is conducted by sri Dalada Maligawa annually. Sri Lanka Natural Attractions TourDay 01 : Arrival - Colombo
Our representatives would welcome you at the airport. You would be escorted to your hotel in Negombo. You can have your dinner and have rest in the hotel.

Day 02 : Negombo
Get up in the morning any time you wish. Spend the day in independent leisure activities. Probably most of you would like to go to beach, the most popular natural attractions in Sri Lanka. Major beach resort on the West Coast is Negombo. Long stretches of sandy beaches and the sea are premiere attractions of Negombo, a conventional fishing town. Alongwith the beach, the fish market is also worth visiting. You can savour delicious fish here. Pass the night at your hotel in Negombo

Day 03 : Negombo - Sigiriya - Giritale 
Have your breakfast. Now drive to Giritale slicing through beautiful countryside. Visit Sigiriya enroute. King Kashyapa had built 'Palace in the Sky' here in the 5th century AD. On the summit of the Sigiriya rock (which can be translated as the 'Lion Rock') are the remnants of a large palace, the earliest surviving royal palacein Sri Lanka. Celebrated paintings of 5th century AD find refuge in a sheltered pocket of the giant rock. Once around 500 paintings covered the rock surface, but now, few of those survice. Late afternoon tour the Minneriya Giritale National Park or the Kaudulla National Park on a jeep safari.

Day 04 : Giritale - Polonnaruwa - Giritale
We go on an excursion to Polonnaruwa. Witness the glory of medieaval Sri Lanka at Polonnaruwa. Polonnaruwa used by the Sri Lankan kings as a 'country residence' from the 7th century became the Island's capital in the 11th century AD. Within the ramparts of the Royal Citadel are the ruins of the King's palace,the Council Chamber and the Royal Bath. The Buddha images at the Gal Vihara or the Rock Temple are masterpieces of stone sculpture. Parakrama Samudra or the Sea of Parakrama is a giant man made irrigation reservoir. A visit to Polonnaruwa is incomplete without visiting the new archaeological museum opened by the Central Cultural Fund where the ancient glory of the city has been recreated in scale models.

Afternoon, we drive back to Giritale. Rest of the day is at leisure for your independent activities. of course, the car & driver would be at your disposal to visit the local markets. Overnight at Hotel in Giritale.

Day 05 : Giritale - Dambulla - Kandy
Following breakfast we drive to Kandy en route we visit Dambulla. Upon arrival we visit the Dambulla Rock Temple, which is a magnificent gallery of Buddha images and wall and ceiling paintings not seen anywhere else in the Island. It is a complex of five cave temples with its origin going back to the Anuradhapura period (1st century BC). However due to additions and restorations done by various rulers over the past two thousand years what now remains are mostly the works of the Kandyan period (18th century).

During our journey out of Dambulla we will also have a chance to visit the wholesale vegetable market just outside the town. The hustle and bustle here would be a fascinating sight as traders and retailers bargain over prices and quality. We will also have an opportunity to stop at a fruit farm where you may taste farm fresh fruit juices - mango, Pineapple, avocado etc.

Following the tour we drive to Kandy. On our way, we would have an opportunity to witness typical Sri Lankan crafts. The art of batik printing can be seen as we visit a batik factory. Woodcarving is also a major art of Sri lanka and we would witness the performance of this art in our visit to a wood carving center. 

Sri Lanka Natural Attractions TourDay 06 : Kandy - Pinnawela - Nuwara Eliya
This morning after breakfast we drive to Nuwara Eliya en route we visit Pinnawela an interesting and amusing elephant orphanage. Pinnawela is the home to some 60 or more elephant orphans. A place you will really enjoy and never forget. Most orphans are accustomed to their curious human visitors are harmless.

Sri Lanka is the only country in the world to open elephant orphanages to protect the destitute young wild elephants. Young elephants left in the jungle without care are brought to this orphanage and tendered till they reach maturity. Interesting time to visit the orphanage is at the bathing time when the herd is brought to a river flowing close by or at feeding time to see the babies being bottle-fed.

From here we ride through incredible natural scenery to Nuwara-Eliya. As we gain elevation the vegetation of the region too changes as also the driving. Tea Gardens begin to appear on the slopes and waterfalls of various strengths appear frequently. The road to clings to the mountains as it twists and turn climbing all the way. The scenes of Terrace cultivation of tea and occasionally of Paddy are a very fascinating sight. 

Day 07 : Nuwara Eliya - Bentota
This morning we commence on a sightseeing tour of Nuwara-Eliya. In 1819, during the British colonial era, a few British on a hunting expedition in the hill country spotted the site where the present day Nuwara Eliya town stands 1890 metres above sea level and decided to set up a health resort for their use. It was Sir Samuel Baker who later converted it to a holiday resort with a touch of an English village, which earned it the name 'Little England'. We visit Hakgala Botanical gardens with exotic trees, shrubs and herbs known to thrive best in hill country. It has an excellent and rare collection of roses, orchids, and a carefully tended fernery. It would be interesting to walk along the gardens exploring and enjoying the natural beauty of the region. 

Day 08 : Bentota - Beruwala - Wadduwa
Following a leisurely breakfast an hour's drive from Colombo along the south coast will take us to Beruwala that marks the beginning of the South Coast Beach Resort. Beruwala is considered to be the first Muslim settlement in the Island established by the Arab traders as far back as the 8th century. There is a famous Muslim mosque at the beachhead close to which is a lighthouse one of several erected along the Sri Lankan. 

Continue to the Siddhalepa Ayurveda Health Resort. Set on the waterfront where woodland and meadow give way to golden beach this resort is a perfect place to relax and unwind in ideal surroundings. You may also enjoy a rejuvenating Ayurvedic massage under the specialized eye of trained physicians. Overnight at Ayurvedic Resort

Day 09 : Colombo - Departure
Following breakfast we proceed on a sightseeing tour of Colombo. We drive through the commercial and city centre area known as the "Fort", built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. A highlight would be a visit to the bustling and colourful markets and bazaars of Pettah; the National Museum with its fine collection of lovely antiques and art of Sri Lan ka. Drive past town hall, Independence square, the B.M.I.C.H (International Convention Centre) and Cinnamon gardens residential area. We also visit the Zoological gardens at Dehiwala and enroute to your hotel visit a Buddhist and a Hindu Temple.

Following the tour of Colombo transfer to the airport for your onward flight back home.

 Kadugannawa

Kadugannawa is a town in Kandy District in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It is located along the A1 road west of Peradeniya. The town is served by Kadugannawa Railway Station. Climbing Kadugannawa Pass by train gives you a breathtaking view of the mountain range including the famous Bible Rock. Kadugannawa incline, the gateway to the hill country starts from Rambukkana, approximately 51.7 miles from Colombo-Fort and 290feet Above Mean Sea Level (AMSL). The rail track winds up through the rugged terrain and reach its peak at Kadugannawa, 1690AMSL, the highest point in Kandy line, keeping along the side of the Alagalla Mountain and across Balana Pass. When the train approach Balana, the passengers could get a breath taking view of the Dekanda Valley, the sensational Kadugannawa rock where the train passes through a narrow cliff with a sheer drop of around thousand eight hundred feet. Balana pass, 62 miles and 1,405 AMSL was strategically important place where the brave Kandyans held their capital for centuries against all the attempts of Europeans to take it. Ruins of the Balana watch tower is still exist and it is around two miles away from the station. There are four small stations between Rambukkana and Kadugannawa

 

 

Haputale
Haputale is a cool place of Badulla district of Sri Lanka. Some what big and special railway station at Haputale place. Haputale railway station at between Diyathalawa and Idalgashinna railway stations. Haputale is a breach to enter upcountry from south west. Haputale is hight more than 1250m above sea level. Because of cool climate, many tourist used to visit and reside at Haputale area. Several tea estates and beautiful sceneries can be viewed at Haputale area. haputale town is border of up country. Deep gap is at Haputale and viewed wide location to the sea at Haputale. Fuel storage tanks at closed to Haputale railway station. After Kotagala station it is at Haputale. Haputale is at Colombo Badulla main road and there is sub ways to Boralanda, Happutale gama and Dambethanna estate.
Several beautiful locations and places can be seen in Haputale area. Adisham bungalow (Boralanda road - 3km ), Lipton Seat is a famous observaion point related Haputale some identify as Dambethanna estate view point (9km) because Lipton Seat is at Dambethanna, Glanor estate (4km), view point at Haputale town, Diyaluma falls (20km), Bambarakanda falls (15km) are famous places at closed to Haputale. Several rest houses at Haputale area and Bandarawela area. Diyathalawa fox hill super cross motor races at Diyathalawa at 5km from Haputale. There is a short way to Nuwaraeliya from Haputale via Boralanda, Bogahakumbura, Keppetipola. To horton plains from Haputale is via Boralanda and Ohiya (Haputale - ohiya 25km)

Bandarwela Central collage and some other schools popular in whole up country. Bandarawela city consist of Playground, Municipal council and some other features.
